Transfer news: Dinamo Moscow agree deal for Manchester United full-back Alexander Buttner



The 25-year-old only moved to Old Trafford from Dutch side Vitesse in 2012,
but as understudy to Patrice Evra he was limited to just 13 Premier League games over the course of two seasons in England.

With Evra having signed a new one-year deal and Southampton left-back Luke Shaw also on United’s radar this summer,

first-team opportunities for the new season appeared to be slim once again for Buttner.

A three-year contract has been agreed to make the switch to the Russian capital and the deal will be finalised once technical details have been ironed out.

Buttner told Dinamo’s official website: "I want to play in the Champions League and win trophies.

"Dinamo have a very strong team and I believe we can fight for first place this season."

Alexander Buttner is ready to quit Manchester United for Dinamo Moscow as he sees no future in England for him under Louis van Gaal.

The Dutch full-back has spent the last two years at Old Trafford, having been snapped up as cover for the experienced Patrice Evra in August 2012.

He has had to make do with sporadic outings in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, making a total of 28 appearances.

It appears as though his situation is unlikely to change any time soon,

with incoming coach van Gaal a man who has consistently overlooked him while in charge of the Netherlands national side.

Buttner is reluctant to spend another year sat in the shadows and believes he has made the right decision

in agreeing to take on a new challenge in Russia – with a medical having already been arranged.


The 25-year-old told De Telegraaf: “Van Gaal never gave me the chance in the Dutch national team, despite being voted man of the match 14 times at Manchester United.

“Apparently, he is not very confident about me. So I think this is the right moment to leave.”

Buttner’s agent Alexander Bursac has echoed those sentiments, telling Voetbal International: “Dinamo Moscow have big plans.

Staying at Manchester United was never an option this summer.

“In the last two years van Gaal has ignored him again and again. What kind of outlook is that for him?”

Should Buttner complete a switch to Dinamo, he will be joining a side that could only muster a fourth-place finish in 2013/14 and will have to make do with Europa League football next term.

The former Vitesse Arnhem defender is, however, remaining upbeat, adding: “I am convinced that the club can now challenge for the championship and then move into the Champions League.”

Buttner brother all but confirms Moscow move

Alex Buttner's brother has dropped the biggest hint yet that the United full-back is set to join Dinamo Moscow.

The Dutchman cast doubt on his future earlier this week by suggesting that he is not wanted by new Reds boss Louis van Gaal.

The player's agent subsequently revealed that Dinamo Moscow were interested in his client, and the transfer now appears to be on the brink of completion.

Buttner's twin brother Denny posted pictures from a hotel in the Russian capital to his Instagram feed on Friday evening.


And he followed that up by publishing another snap also featuring Alex, who is likely to be in the city to finalise a deal.




Buttner's departure comes as little surprise as the Reds continue to chase Southampton full-back Luke Shaw despite having extended Patrice Evra's stay.

Van Gaal has seemingly wasted little time in informing his fellow Dutchman that his services won't be required, as Buttner explained.

He said: “Van Gaal never gave me the chance in the Dutch national team, despite being voted man of the match 14 times at Manchester United.

The Dutch left-back has explained that he is keen to "play in the Champions League" and "win trophies" when his departure from United is sealed.



Alexander Buttner is close to completing a move to Dynamo Moscow - and has already taken something of a parting swipe at United.

The Russian club have announced that only "technical details" stand in the way of them finalising a swoop for the defender, who joined the Reds in 2012.

And, in a statement on Dynamo's official website, Buttner has hinted that he believes the move to be a step up.

He said: "I want to play in the Champions League, win trophies.

"Dynamo are a very strong team, I am confident that we will fight for first place this season."

Buttner's departure has appeared inevitable since last week when his agent Alexander Bursac insisted that his client had been forced to look for a move away.

"To stay at Manchester United was not an option for Buttner," he said.

"In the past two years, Louis van Gaal has ignored Buttner time after time. So what kind of perspective does he have when Van Gaal becomes his new club coach?

"Patrice Evra signed a new contract and with Luke Shaw they want to buy another player for Buttner's position."
