United defender Buttner close to sealing a season-long loan to Celtic Manchester United left-back Alexander Buttner is close to completing a move to Celtic on loan for the rest of the season.The 24-year-old signed for United from Vitesse in 2012 but has failed to trouble Patrice Evra for a place in the starting eleven.
Buttner was
set to move on loan to Besiktas but that appears to have
fallen through after the Turkish club lost an appeal against a ban from competing in this season's Europa League following involvement in match fixing. 
The opportunity of Champions League football at Celtic Park is appealing for Buttner and United manager David Moyes has ties with the Glasgow club,
having begun his playing career there in 1980.
The
deal will have to be concluded before 11pm as the summer transfer deadline closes today in Scotland, two days ahead of most European countries. Aleksander Bursac, who represents Buttner, told
STV: 'Yes,
Celtic would like to take the player on loan for the season.'We feel it would greatly help the boy’s development to be playing regularly at that level and in European football. Celtic are a really great club.
'They (Celtic) have been back and forward in dialogue with Manchester United. It’s in their hands now as we are not sure if they want to release him.'
