The Independent: United to agree to ?40M for De GeaManchester United are finally ready to throw in the towel and let De Gea complete a long, drawn out move to Madrid before the close of the transfer window tomorrow. It has been reported that United are willing to lower the price from the ?45M they have stuck to all summer which will allow De Gea to make his dream move to the Santiago Bernabèu.
?40M appears to be the new figure that talks are centred around and Red Devil emissaries are said to be in Madrid to fast track the deal.
However, despite the optimism and the will shown by both parties to complet the signing of the Illescas man, it is understood that the final deal will involve a much smaller sum.
The British media indicate that United want to include Gareth Bale in the negotiations, but are conscious of the difficulty of that realistically happening.
Van Gaal, meanwhile, urged caution to those who see the De Gea move as a fait accompli : “We will make announcements when we want to make them. Not when the journalists want them”.
