FABRICE Muamba woke from his coma after collapsing during an FA Cup clash and asked: "Did we lose", a pal said today.
Friends of the Bolton Wanderers midfielder said he did not know where he was when he came-to in a hospital bed yesterday afternoon after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch during a game at White Hart Lane.
Family pal Aime Esalo told how the 23-year-old was asked by his dad Marcel if he knew who he was as he came round. Mr Esalo said: "Fabrice said yes, and the next thing he asked was: 'Did we lose?' "When he was told they were drawing, Fabrice asked why they had stopped the game and his father said, 'Because of you'." Mr Esalo said Muamba had also asked for his fiancee Shauna and their three-year-old son Joshua. Although Shauna, who he proposed to on Valentine's Day, has kept a bedside vigil since he was hospitalised, it is not thought little Josh has been to see his dad yet. Mr Esalo said the family were waiting for Fabrice to get a "little better" before he sees his young son.
Earlier, Bolton manager Owen Coyle said he had a "conversation" with the stricken star. Coyle was speaking after it was announced by doctors that the player had a "comfortable night" and was able to speak to his family. The London Chest Hospital – where the soccer ace was taken after his cardiac arrest during an FA Cup game against Tottenham on Saturday – said he had also been stunned by the support he had received from well-wishers around the world.
