Garry Monk expects Michu's Swansea City exit



Swansea City manager Garry Monk does not think that Michu will play for the Premier League club again.
Michu was a £2m signing from Rayo Vallecano in July 2012 and scored 22 goals in 43 games in his first season.
The Spaniard, 29, spent last season on loan at Napoli in Italy, but injuries limited him to five games.
"You never say never in football so I wouldn't totally exclude Michu at all, but it's very highly likely he'll be moving on to a new club," Monk said.
"I wouldn't know in terms of where he's going to go.
"I know the chairman [Huw Jenkins] is speaking to his agents, his representatives about that situation and trying to clarify that exactly.
"Hopefully in the coming days when it's been resolved we can see what happens there."
Michu, who has a year left on his Swansea deal, could now return home to Spain, with reported interest from Granada and former club Rayo.

La Liga side Granada have confirmed their interest in signing forward Michu from Swansea.

The Swans are keen to sell the Spain international, who has one year left on his contract, and the 29-year-old has been linked with a return home.

"We like Michu a lot," Granada sporting director Juan Carlos Cordero said to Spanish sports newspaper Marca.

"We have spoken to him and with his agent, but there is no agreement nor have we begun negotiations.

"He would be a very important player for Granada but he has a contract with his club.

"We have players in that position and we also have a budget that we must respect."

MICHU IN DEMAND

Swansea City forward Michu has offers from a trio of La Liga clubs, reports Marca.

The Spain international impressed during his first season in south Wales, with 22 goals in 43 outings, but he has struggled since and Swans boss Garry Monk recently admitted the player is likely to move on.

A return to his homeland looks probable, with Marca reporting that the 29-year-old is weighing up offers from Rayo Vallecano, Granada and Deportivo La Coruna.

MICHU TALKS CONTINUE

Swansea City remain in discussions with Michu as the two parties prepare to part company this summer, according to the Mail.

Manager Garry Monk had already confirmed that the Spaniard would leave the club and has now confirmed that talks to that end continue.

"We're still trying to come to an agreement that suits both parties and hopefully help Michu find what he needs to find," he said.

“You'd imagine [he'll leave permanently]. He has just this year left on his contract, so we're just trying to come to an agreement that suits Michu himself and this club.”

Swansea City are set to finally end their brilliant and baffling relationship with Michu, with the club resigned to paying him off so that he can restart his career in the fourth tier of Spanish football.
Sportsmail revealed in June that there was no hope of a reconciliation between Swansea and the forward, who made an incredible impact in his 22-goal first season but has not played a minute of football for the past year because of persistent ankle injuries.
Both parties agreed at a meeting in the summer that there was no future in the relationship, but it is only now that a settlement is close on the remainder of Michu’s contract, which is worth in the region of £40,000-a-week and runs until the summer.

The full value would be in excess of £1million, though it is understood Swansea will pay the 29-year-old some way less to get him off the books.
A Swansea source told Sportsmail an agreement could be reached as early as this week.
Michu, whose Swansea form earned him a cap for then-world champions Spain in 2013, has been training recently with Union Langreo, who play in Spain’s fourth tier and are run by his brother Hernan Perez.
Michu would not be eligible to play for any club until January at the earliest.
The move will represent a desperate attempt for the forward to revive his career after repeated operations on his right ankle.
He joined Napoli on loan last season after telling Garry Monk that he wanted to leave, but failed to score a single goal in Italy.
Michu was once rated at £30m by Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins after his sensational breakthrough season under Michael Laudrup in 2012-13, but scored only six in all competitions in the following campaign.

Former Swansea striker Michu signs for Spanish fourth division club

Former Swansea striker Michu is set to return to football this weekend in the fourth tier of Spanish football.

The 29-year-old has joined Unión Popular de Langreo, a team managed by his brother Hernán Pérez, after leaving Swansea by mutual consent on Monday.

He scored 28 goals in 67 games for the Premier League club after joining from Rayo Vallecano in 2012 for £2m, but injuries hampered his time in Wales after an impressive first season at the Liberty Stadium.

Michu, who won his only cap for Spain during qualification for the 2014 World Cup, spent last season on loan at Napoli but featured just five times.

Langreo hosted the forward during pre-season to help him regain fitness but he had to once again undergo ankle surgery.

"He has suffered terribly. Many people would have thrown in the towel already," Hernan Perez told Radio Marca.

"The psychological element is possibly what we have to work on. It's not that he's in a bad way but it is true that he has gone from being a professional footballer to finding that interrupted now for almost two years.

"He has to re-connect, feel like a sportsman again, feel useful, feel healthy. He's a strong guy and in very little time I think he will be at 100 percent of his mental capacity too.

"Hopefully he can get back to being what he was; we are going to help him. I hope that him playing for us is just anecdotal and that in a few months' time he is back playing at a higher level.

"If in three or four months' time he is fine, if his ankle responds, if he recovers that muscle and if emotionally he is fine, and a first division club comes, then he can play in the first division; if it's a second division club, then in the second.

"But, even though I would say this as his brother, he is very honourable and he did not want to sign with anyone until he was 100 percent fit. You can't con people."
