Fabregas "proud to be" at Arsenal
Cesc Fabregas has hailed Arsenal as a "world-class club" and suggested he is ready to stay next season.
Fabregas had earlier indicated that he wanted to return to Barcelona this summer but, given the current economic difficulties at the club, it appears new president Sandro Rosell is unwilling to pay big money for the player.
Following Spain's victory over Netherlands on Sunday, Fabregas said: "All I can say is that this World Cup victory is for all the Arsenal players and fans. They are a world-class club.
"I had a text message of congratulations from Arsene Wenger. He said I deserve it. I just think this is for everyone at Arsenal who helped me get to where I am now. I am an Arsenal player and proud to be."
Fabregas also revealed his first thought after beating Netherlands was to console Arsenal team-mate Robin van Persie.
"The first thing I had to do after the final whistle was go to Robin," he said. "Instead of celebrating with my friends, I wanted to talk to him. He has been injured a lot and if it wasn't us he was playing against, it would have been different. I just hope he has his chance again, because he is a great guy and a great leader."
During Spain's celebrations in Madrid on Monday, Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina - assisted by Barca players Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol - put a Barcelona shirt on Fabregas in front of the watching crowd, but the player swiftly removed it.
