We understand Brighton are keen to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic from Newcastle. One source has told us a bid has been made. West Brom also interested #NUFC

Understand Benitez won’t let Mitrovic leave unless he has an agreement in place with another. The Spaniard doesn’t want to be left short in numbers.

Newcastle have had a bid knocked back by Feyenoord for striker Nicolai Jorgensen. We’re told Mike Ashley is willing to break the club’s 12-year-old transfer record for the Danish international, but the Dutch side are looking for more than £20m.

So there’s been plenty of talk about the £20million striker. At this stage we can’t give the identity of the forward but here’s a few things we do know:

They’re in negotiations and a first bid turned down
It’s not Kevin Gameiro or Moussa Dembele of Celtic
Mike Ashley has signed off the plan to back Rafa Benitez after a series of conference calls - and United are now actively trying to recruit (what took them so long, you might ask)
It would be a permanent deal, not a loan deal
United have enquired about Daniel Sturridge - available on loan - but Liverpool asking for £50m

#NUFC latest: Jorgensen remains striker priority, but last seasons Eredivisie top scorer will now cost more than 20m! Other targets being explored. Rafa and Lee Charnley expected to speak today to move forward. Player sales still unlikely at this stage, but interest in a few. 1/2

Gut feeling is they WILL sign a new centre forward this window, with up to 20m available for that transfer. But still work to do. As always... Until it's done etc, but that's my gut feeling. #NUFC 2/2

Understand the second Newcastle bid for Nicolai Jorgensen knocked back by Feyenoord was for £15m. The Dutch club holding out for at least £5m more.

Feyenoord have told #nufc they want to hear by 6pm UK time on Jorgensen. Loan options also being looked at and NUFC still talking with view to sign a goalkeeper. Woodman will leave on loan if that comes off. #TransferWindow

Daniel Sturridge could well be on his way to @NUFC from @LFC  
A loan until the end of the season with a loan fee of £1.5 million and an agreement to pay his salary in full.
