Gareth Bale is closer than ever to knocking on the Santiago Bernabéu front door. Quite literally – he is only 583 kilometres away, in Marbella. He went there to get away from all the carry-on regarding his signing and to have a last few hours of peace before his transfer to the Madrid club is made official.
And this Sunday he′ll be even closer still to his teammates – 178 kilometres, to be precise. That is the distance that separates him from Granada, where his team is to play at 20:00.
Bale bade farewell to London a Spurs player. The imminent signing will mean that he will travel directly from Marbella to the Spanish capital to be unveiled – more than probably on Tuesday.
When he goes back to London to sort out his moving, he will do so a Real Madrid player, and will be under no obligation to set foot in White Hart Lane. And he already said goodbye to his teammates last Friday.
The agreement between the player and the two clubs is total, and all that is needed is that the Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, gives the green light for the three parties to put pen to paper. Real Madrid will pay the London club £85 million (?99 million) in four instalments. The player will sign for six years, earning a tidy ?10 million after tax, which puts him up there with the likes of CR7 and Kaká in the earning rankings.
