Man City in last minute approach for Fernando Torres
The Spanish media are reporting that Man City have made a last minute approach to sign Liverpool hit man Fernando Torres.

Spanish radio are claiming that Man City have offered in excess of £50 Million and are prepared to outbid Chelsea in order to lure Torres to Eastlands.

Rumours are now rife, with Andy Carroll targeted by Liverpool, Chelsea turning their attention to Sergio Aguerro and the odds on who is leaving and who is not changing all the time.

But Man City going after Torres would be no real surprise, in fact it may be more of a surprise if they did not in fact have a go at signing the Spanish hit man.

Arsenal to make last minute dash to sign Shay Given
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made an approach to Manchester City to sign the unhappy keeper Shay Given as Arsenal’s goalkeeping crisis continues. Roberto Mancini has tried to tell Given that he can’t leave the Eastlands, but the keeper himself is willing to insert a clause in any loan deal that he could be recalled immediately.

At the beginning of the season Manuel Almunia was the Gunners Number One, but after a couple of bad performances and a string of mysterious injuries it looked like he had played his last game for the Gunners.

The number two Lukasz Fabianski was promoted, and after a few promising performances he sustained a shoulder injury against Man City a few weeks ago. It is being reported today that he is expected to need surgery and could be out for a very long time.

This leaves just the young Pole Wojciech Szcsesny as the only fit (and happy!) senior keeper, so Given looks like the most sensible option for Wenger.

Given said this week that he didn’t care where he went as long as he got to play. “I just want to play football,” Given is quoted as saying in the Irish Times. “I do not want to go for an entire season without playing, which is how it’s looking if I don’t get games.”

With the luck that Wenger is having with his goalkeepers at Arsenal perhaps Given is just as likely to be injured if he goes to the Emirates!

Man City target Alexis Sanchez to replace Johnson
The Man City manager Roberto Mancini has been forced into making a last minute signing after the young English winger Adam Johnson has been told he will be on the treatment table for the next three months at least. The England team will also be affected with Euro 2012 qualifiers against Wales on the calender.

The injury to Johnson’s ankle occurred during training on Thursday and scans revealed the injury to be worse than was at first thought. He will need an operation to repair his ankle ligaments.

Mancini said: “He’s possibly out for the rest of the season or maybe back for the FA Cup final. It’s the same injury Kolarov suffered earlier this season and it’s a big problem for us”

Regarding the looming deadline Mancini said: “We’ve got only 24 hours left in the transfer window and we will try to do something but in 24 hours it will be very difficult”.

The main target for Mancini is reported to be Udinese’s Chilean international Alexis Sanchez, who has been wowing the Serie A crowds this season with some scintillating performances. Mancini said: “If we take another player it will be a winger”. Udinese have repeatedly said they would rather not cash in on Sanchez until the summer, but if Man City go straight in with a ridiculous figure they will find it extremely hard to resist.

Meanwhile Shaun Wright-Phillips has handed in a transfer request which Manchester City have declined due to Johnson’s injury and the problems Mario Balotelli is experiencing with his knee.

Stoke’s Tuncay to join Wolfsburg today
Tuncay Sanli, the Stoke City striker, in currently in Wolfsburg undergoing a medical examination before he can put pen to paper on £4 million transfer to the German side.

Tuncay flew out to meet Wolfsburg manager, Steve McClaren straight after he watched his Stoke beat Wolves 1-0 in the FA Cup yesterday.

“The club have received a bid from Wolfsburg but we’re keen to keep Tunny if we can.” said Stoke City manager Tony Pulis.

But the Turkish forward wants to test himself in the Bundesliga and has been unhappy about his limited playing time since transferring from Middlesborough for £5 million last season.

Man City in talks with Barcelona over Daniel Alves
Rumours are flying left right and centre and not just in the UK, Spain is also full of rumours and the latest one picking up momentum in Spain is that Manchester City have sent representatives to Barcelona to discuss bringing Daniel Alves to Eastlands.

While this is just a rumour doing the rounds in Spain it is not without credibility, Man City boss Roberto Mancini has long coveted Alves and has been trying to get him to sign with Man City for some time now, it is has only been the contract talks stalling in Barcelona recently that has given hope to Mancini, a hope that may now turn to reality.

No fee has been mentioned of course and like all rumours today it does need to be taken with a pinch of salt, but compared to some of the other transfer stories popping up this one may have some legs in it.
