United fans have voted Ji-sung Park the Reds’ Player of the Month for December.
The South Korean, currently away on international duty and preparing for the AFC Asian Cup, garnered 40 per cent of almost 25,000 votes in ManUtd.com’s end-of-month poll. He has now won back-to-back monthly honours after also picking up November’s gong.
The Reds’ midfielder shone particularly brightly in December against Valencia and Arsenal. He was a potent attacking threat in the second half against the Spaniards and his stinging shot led directly to Anderson’s equaliser. Then, when the Gunners came to Old Trafford, Park married a typically energetic performance with the only goal of the game when he cleverly headed home at the end of the first half.
Park wasn’t the only star performer during December, and that’s reflected in the poll’s results. Dimitar Berbatov only just missed out on the award, attracting 38 per cent of the vote, while Anderson polled a respectable 15 per cent.
Ji’s good club form means his presence at the Asian Cup, potentially until the end of January, comes as a blow for United. He even admitted in December that the tournament stirred mixed feelings in him.
“At the moment I am playing with confidence for United, so I do feel a bit strange about going,” he said. “But I am always happy to join my national team as well. Even without me Manchester United have enough players to keep winning, so I will concentrate on the
