Rooney absence explained Manchester United manager David Moyes spoke briefly before his side's Champions League encounter against Shakhtar Donetsk to
explain Wayne Rooney's absence from the team.
Fans concerned by his omission from the Reds' starting eleven in Ukraine can feel reassured that Rooney's injury is only a minor concern.
"He
picked up a crack in the shin and it's swollen up," said Moyes in his pre-match interview.
"My plan wasn't to use him from the start anyway, because he's had a lot of football recently. He was going to be on the bench but he has not been able to make it."
Speaking in a press conference after the game, the United manager added: "
Wayne will be okay for Saturday. He clashed shins with Danny Welbeck [in training].
At a push we probably could have risked him but we decided not to."
