Philippe Senderos leaves Aston Villa by mutual consent

Philippe Senderos has left Aston Villa after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

Switzerland international Senderos joined Villa on a free transfer from Valencia in June 2014.

However, the former Arsenal, Everton and Fulham centre-back played just nine games in 18 months for the Premier League club.

He initially impressed for Villa but picked up a thigh injury on international duty in October 2014 and was then sidelined for four weeks.

The 30-year-old returned the following month against West Ham but suffered a calf injury while training with Switzerland and has not played for Villa since.

"Aston Villa and Philippe Senderos have mutually agreed to terminate the defender's contract," said a statement on the club's website.

"The club wishes Philippe all the best in his future career."

SENDEROS’ SWISS MOVE

Defender Philippe Senderos has signed for Grasshoppers Zurich after his release from Aston Villa this week.

Senderos, 30, spent 18 months with Villa, but has moved to his native Switzerland on a six-month deal.
