Premiership – 2006-07
That man Rio Ferdinand once again proved a thorn in Liverpool's side, taking advantage of a knock to Jamie Carragher to fire home United's second with a left-footed strike inside the box. Earlier, Paul Scholes scored from a rebound after a brilliant save from Pepe Reina. It might all have been different had Dirk Kuyt's 30th minute header not been stopped by Edwin van Saar.
Man Utd 1-0 Liverpool
Premiership – 2005-06
A Rio Ferdinand header seconds before the curtain fell in the 'Theatre of Dreams' ended a 12-game unbeaten run in the league. It also severely dented hopes of pipping our Mancunian rivals to second place. What made defeat harder to bear was the fact victory had been within our grasp. Who knows how the table would have looked come May had Djibril Cisse not missed a glorious second-half opportunity from just yards out.
Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool
Premiership – 2004-05
Goals in each half from Mikael Silvestre sent Liverpool crashing to a deserved defeat in Rafa's first game against Man Utd. The hosts were in rampant mood, with Ronaldo hitting the post and driving a volley wide, van Nistelrooy blasting a shot at Jerzy Dudek's legs and then heading over when he should have done better, and future Reds target Gabriel Heinze testing the Liverpool goalkeeper with a looping header. The sight of Steven Gerrard being stretchered off the sodden Old Trafford turf with a fractured foot made the journey back across the East Lancs even more miserable for the travelling supporters.
Man Utd 0-1 Liverpool
Premiership – 2003-04
The Reds' last victory in the league against Alex Ferguson's men came thanks to a Danny Murphy penalty 61 minutes in. It was a welcome relief after three games without a win – and victory was made even sweeter by the fact Gary Neville was the man whose indiscretion gave Liverpool the points.
Man Utd 4-0 Liverpool
Premiership – 2002-03
Two Ruud Van Nistelrooy penalties and goals from Ryan Giggs and Ole Solskjaer sent the Reds crashing to a 4-0 defeat in a game which saw Sami Hyypia sent off. The Finn was sent for an early bath after just three minutes for a tug on United's prolific Dutch striker. Mike Riley also pointed to the spot and there was never really any recovering from there. Liverpool's chances of qualifying for the Champions League were now hanging by a thread...
