Everton manager rewarded while Sunderland's Steven Fletcher wins player accolade
Everton’s David Moyes has been named Barclays Manager of the Month for September and Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher, Player of the Month. After beginning the month with defeat at West Bromwich Albion, Everton were held by Newcastle United but beat Swansea City and Southampton to continue a promising start to the season.
"The pleasing thing is that we tend not to start that well but we have won a few games," Moyes told
evertonfc.com. "I do say it carefully as I see 10 games as a start and we are only six or seven in at the moment.
"But I am really pleased and with all these awards it comes as a team thing. The players have played well, they are in good form. We have had a good start to the season through August and September and big thanks to Barclays for giving me this award."
Fletcher was named Barclays Player of the Month after scoring five goals in four matches.
“I’m obviously pleased with the award but results are more important,” the striker who was signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer told
safc.com. “To stay unbeaten in September was a real positive for the lads and I’m pleased I grabbed a few goals as well.”
