Barcelona striker Bojan Krkic is edging closer to a move to Real Betis, after Spanish newspaper Sport claimed that they had reached a tentative agreement for the former Roma player. The 22-year-old has been struggling to hold down a first team place at any of the clubs he has been at, leaving Roma for fellow Serie A side AC Milan last season, but not doing enough to warrant a permanent transfer to San Siro after scoring just three league goals all season.
He has now returned to Barca after they exercised a buy back clause in his contract, allowing them to sign him for around £11million, with a view to making a profit in selling him on.
With several clubs interested but not willing to make a move for the former Barcelona B striker, a deal to another La Liga club looks on the cards, but will probably come in the form of a loan deal due to the financial state of most clubs in Spain.
Real Betis are no different, despite the sale of standout performer from last season Benat Etxebarria, who left to join his boyhood club Athletic Club Bilbao in the summer for a fee of ?8million.
A potential stumbling block for a move to the Benito Villamarin is the player’s wage demands, which are believed to be around ?3m per season, a fee that would blow Betis’ current wage structure to smithereens.
First choice striker Ruben Castro is the club’s current top earner, with a wage of just under ?1m, and manager Pepe Mel is looking for Bojan to drop his wage demands before sealing the deal.
However, despite these wrangles, the club are hopeful of pulling off a deal soon, with the player eager for the chance of first team football as well as taking part in the club’s Europa League campaign.
