MARTIN AGREES NEW DEAL
City defender signs new three-year contract
I'm extremely delighted - everyone knows how I feel about playing for this football Club"
Russell Martin
NORWICH City are delighted to announce that defender Russell Martin has put pen-to-paper on a new three-year contract with the Club.
The Scotland international full-back made 36 appearances for the Canaries in all competitions last season and signs a deal that will see his stay at Carrow Road extended to 2016.
Martin said: "I'm extremely delighted - everyone knows how I feel about playing for this football Club.
"Since I first arrived here it's gone unbelievably well and I feel really settled in the area.
"I'm happy playing for this Club and I've got a great relationship with the players, staff and the supporters, and I'm just delighted to be here for another three years."
27-year-old Martin joined City initially on loan from Peterborough United before making the switch permanent in January 2010, and has played 146 times in total for the Club.
He was released by hometown club Brighton & Hove Albion as a youngster before four successful seasons at Wycombe Wanderers earned him a move to Peterborough, whom he would go on to captain under Darren Ferguson.
Martin qualifies for Scotland through his parentage, and after turning out four times in friendlies for them, he made his competitive debut in their 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Croatia last month.
City manager Chris Hughton added: “It’s about players earning a new deal and I’m delighted to be extending Russell Martin’s contract.
“Russ has played his full part not just in helping us to achieve our finishing position last season, but of course in the Club’s massive successes over the previous three seasons and he’s certainly earned his new contract.”
