Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has denied the club have made moves to sign Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla.
The28-year-old cost Arsene Wenger in the region of £12million when hemoved from Malaga last summer, with the player going on to score 12goals in his debut season at the Emirates.
Reports on Wednesday claimed Atletico chief executive Miguel AngelGil Marin had opened discussions with the Gunners over a possible£17.5million deal to take Cazorla back to Spain.
However, when quizzed about a possible deal for the former Villarreal star, Cerezo denied Atletico had made a bid.
"We have no news of Cazorla," he said. "They are inventions that occur every day."
Atletico signed Cazorla's former Malaga team-mate Martin Demichelisearlier this month, with the Argentine agreeing a one-year deal.
Los Rojiblancos, who finished third in the Primera Division lastseason and won the Copa del Rey, have also signed forwards David Villaand Leo Baptistao already this summer and brought back goalkeeperThibaut Courtois for a third year on loan from Chelsea.

Arsenal star Santi Cazorla isn't leaving for Atletico Madrid as Gonzalo Higuain deal flops
ARSENAL have reportedly revealed claims regarding midfield ace Santi Cazorla heading to Atletico Madrid are false.

According to reports in Spain, the 28-year old set off last night to start the process of sealing a deal with the La Liga.
Cazorla came close to signing for Real Madrid before moving to England and playing for Arsene Wenger's team last summer, making 45 appearances and becoming a firm fan favourite.
And new reports from the continent now suggest the Gunners have moved to extinguish the rumours about one of their star players and are now determined to keep him in the Premier League.




During a recent interview, the Spanish international revealed he was still very much dedicated to the north London club."In football you have to live in the moment," he said.


“I have three years left on my contract and I have not thought of anything like that. My plan is to continue at the club.
"Arsenal are treating me very well and I want to win a title with them. In football, you cannot predict the future at any time.”It was also revealed Wenger's campaign to strengthen the squad for this term has hit a snag, after the club's bid to bring Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain to North London hit the buffers over the star's talks with Napoli.
