Tottenham ready to battle Manchester City for Benfica star Eduardo Salvio



Tottenham are ready to go head-to-head with Manchester City to sign Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio.
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas has been alerted to the availability of 23-year-old Salvio, with Benfica keen to sell to raise money to overhaul their squad.
Manchester City are already considering making an offer for the winger, but Spurs are ready to show their hand as they continue the hunt for a new wide player.
Twente ace Nacer Chadli and Atletico Mineiro star Bernard have both been considered by Villas-Boas, but Salvio would be his preferred target if a deal can be agreed.

Benfica are said to want up to £40million for the player they signed from Atletico Madrid for a club record, but sources in Portugal suggest he will go for around half that.Salvio, an elegant and agile winger, can play on either flank and is known for his pace and excellent dribbling ability.
Villas-Boas was interested in signing him for Porto during his time there, but hopes he will finally be able to buy the player before the window shuts
