West Ham United are delighted to announce the capture of England international winger
Stewart Downing.
The 29-year-old has moved to the Boleyn Ground from Barclays PremierLeague rivals Liverpool on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
Capped 34 times, Downing became the Hammers' fifth summer signingfollowing the arrivals of fellow England star and Reds team-mate AndyCarroll, Romania captain Razvan Rat, Spanish goalkeeper Adrian andpromising midfielder Danny Whitehead.
Downing, who also played alongside West Ham stars Joe Cole withLiverpool and England and James Collins at Aston Villa, is lookingforward to making his mark for Sam Allardyce's side as they seek tobuild on last season's tenth-place finish.
"I'm very excited. It's a great opportunity for me being here, it's agreat Club and I'm really excited to get going," said theMiddlesbrough-born wideman. "I'm ready and I'm fit for the first gameagainst Cardiff City. I've played a decent few games for Liverpool inpre-season, so there will be no problems on that front.
"It's all happened quickly, but I'm really excited and hoping to play a part on Saturday."
