Arsenal FC have reportedly expressed interested in signing Manchester City defender Micah Richards. The Gunners are currently facing a defensive crisis with captain Thomas Varmaelen and Per Mertesacker out with injuries. Laurent Koscielny will also miss the next Premier League match away to Fulham through suspension after his red card against Aston Villa.Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has come under pressure after his failure to make much of an impact in the transfer market this summer and further pressure has been added on him after his side’s limp display against Aston Villa in the opening game of their Premier League campaign at the Emirates Stadium.Micah Richards signed a four-year deal at the Etihad Stadium last year but missed a chunck of last season due to injury as City surrendered the Premier League title to Manchester United. With the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as City manager this season, it remains to seen whether Richards features in the Chilean manager’s plans.Richards broke into the first-team making his way up through the City academy and made his debut at the age of 17. The defender has gone on to make more than 200 appearances for City, captaining the side on many occasions. The 25-year old has won 13 International caps for England.Reports also claim that City are not willing to part with Richards and have offered a new contract to their academy graduate. Therefore, it is believed that if Arsenal are looking to bring Richards to the Emirates, they will have to make a big offer.Arsenal have so far only signed French youngster Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from Auxerre.Written by: Sarad Shrestha
