Napoli signing Gonzalo Higuain has been hospitalised after a fall at the seaside resort of Capri in the Gulf of Naples.







According to initial reports, the ?37m summer capture from Real Madrid slipped on a rock during a boat trip in the Marina Piccola.

He was taken to the A&E department of the Capilupi hospital after hitting his head and sustaining a cut to the left side of his jaw.

The Argentine international made his Serie A debut in last night’s 3-0 win over Bologna.

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has been hospitalised after injuring his jaw on rocks in Capri while on a boating trip, according to reports in Italy.

Higuain is thought to have been relaxing in a boat off the gulf of Naples when he slipped on rocks before hitting his face while in the Marina Piccola.

He was taken to the A&E department of the Capilupi hospital, with Gazzetta dello Sport saying the Argentina international was treated with eight stitches to his jaw area and two to his eyebrow.

Higuain moved to Napoli in July for £34.5million despite heavy interest from Arsenal, and made his debut for Napoli in Sunday's 3-0 win over Bologna.

Marek Hamsik scored a brace after Jose Callejon had put Napoli ahead on the opening day of the Serie A season.

Higuain, 25, needed numerous stitches following the accident on Monday, and Napoli's medical staff wants him to avoid physical contact with team-mates.

However, the Argentina international is expected to train normally later in the week and should be available for Saturday's match at Chievo Verona.

The accident happened a day after he had played well -- but not scored -- in the 3-0 win over Bologna that opened Napoli's Serie A season.

The striker was enjoying a day off, but spent the afternoon in a hospital after slipping while disembarking from a yacht onto nearby rocks.

Two stitches were required on his cheek with a further eight on his jaw, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport and the Corriere dello Sport.

"The hospital didn't even know how to put in 10 stitches," he told Italian media, adding that he intended to sue the Campania region and the municipality of Capril for 10 million euros.

"I'm fed up with not having medical facilities of a decent standard," added De Laurentiis. "Whether the patient is an actor, a footballer or an ordinary person, when they go to a hospital, they must be well looked after.

"What does the mayor of Capri do? What does the president of the region do?"

Higuain needed the treatment after slipping during an excursion to Capri, an island off Italy's southern coast, and injuring his jaw.

Higuain, who joined Napoli from Real Madrid in July after spending 6-1/2 seasons with the Spanish side, made his official debut in the 3-0 win over Bologna on Sunday, when he had a goal disallowed for offside.

He will miss Argentina's World Cup qualifier away to Paraguay on September 10 as he completes a two-match suspension.
