Manchester City join Eliaquim Mangala transfer race as their defender hunt gets expensive
France international also linked with Man United, Chelsea and Barcelona has a £40million buy-out in his contract at Porto
Life begins at £40m: City won't be getting Mangala on the cheap
Manchester City are considering splashing out £40million to buy French defender Eliaquim Mangala.
The deposed Premier League champions are looking for centre-back cover following injuries to captain Vincent Kompany, Matija Nastasic and Micah Richards.
They have been looking at relatively low-budget options
in Atletico Madrid's Martin Demichelis, who played for City's new manager Manuel Pellegrini at Malaga last season,
and Adil Rami of Valencia.
To sign Mangala however, they will need to pay the £40m buy-out in his contract, which runs until 2016.
The Paris-born 22-year-old, who is rated among the best young defenders in Europe, has
also been watched by Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as Barcelona.
Mangala made his France debut against Uruguay in June, playing alongside Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny.
Porto do not need to sell again this summer, as they have already banked over £60m from Monaco for Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez, while
winger Christian Atsu is a target for Chelsea.
