Atletico Madrid complete Alderweireld deal

The Belgium international has at last completed his move from theAmsterdam giants to the Copa del Rey holders, who have also signedJosuha Guilavogui

Atletico Madrid have completed the signings of Toby Alderweireld from Ajax for a fee believed to be in the region of ?7 million on a four-year deal.

TheChampions League hopefuls were keen to strengthen their defence beforethe end of the summer transfer window and have now finalised thetransfer of Alderweireld on deadline day.

The Belgiuminternational, whose Ajax deal was due to expire in 2014, had alreadypassed his medical on Saturday and has now signed a four-year deal withAtletico.

Alderweireld, 24, joined the Ajax youth academy fromGerminal Beerschot in 2004 and had developed into a key player at theEredivisie champions in the past few seasons.

He had also caughtthe attention of clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool thissummer, but will now continue his career at Atletico instead.

"I wanted to sign for one of the best club's in Europe," he told their official website. "I'm happy to be a part of this club."

Meanwhile,Atleti have also signed Saint-Etienne midfielder Josuha Guilavogui fromSaint-Etienne for a fee believed to be in the region of ?10m.

TheFrance international, 22, has spent all of his professional career atStade Geoffroy-Guichard, but has been widely linked with a move awayfrom the club this summer.

However Diego Simeone's men have seenoff reported competition from the likes of Arsenal, clinching hissigning on a five-year deal.

He said: "I am pleased to have movedto a club as big as Atletico and to pay for these fantastic fans. Ihope to work hard so that the team continues to win titles in the comingyears."
