HODGSON PICKS 23-MAN SQUAD



Roy Hodgson has named his England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifying deciders against Montenegro and Poland.

The Three Lions sit top of Group H, a point ahead of Ukraine and the Montenegrins, knowing two Wembley wins will secure a place at Brazil 2014.

England boss Hodgson has selected Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge and Manchester United's Wayne Rooney, who between them have bagged eight times in the Premier League
this season, after they missed September's qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.

Rickie Lambert and Danny Welbeck are also included in the forward line along with Jermain Defoe.

The midfield is largely unchanged and includes England's latest member of the 100-club, Frank Lampard, skipper Steven Gerrard and Everton teenager Ross Barkley.

The squad will gather at St. George's Park on Monday and begin preparations for the first game of the double-header against Montenegro at Wembley Stadium.

They are then back under the arch four days later to take on Poland.

COLE TO MISS MONTENEGRO

Roy Hodgson's England squad came together at St. George's Park on Monday at the start of a huge few days in their World Cup adventure.

However, after naming a 23-man group for their games against Montenegro and Poland last Thursday, only Chelsea defender
Ashley Cole didn't report and has withdrawn from the squad due to injury.

Cole will be unavailable for the meeting with Montenegro at Wembley on Friday, remaining with his club for further treatment.

Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs has been added to Hodgson's squad.

Shortly after arriving on Monday afternoon, some of the players took part in a light session on the elite pitch at the national football centre,
while those who played in the Premier League the day before did recovery work.

The squad will step up their preparations throughout the week with the Montenegro game their main focus.

They will then welcome Poland to Wembley next Tuesday and know that maximum points from these final games will secure a place at next summer's World Cup in Brazil.
