Adidas Brazuca unveiled as official match ball for 2014 World Cup
The adidas 'Brazuca' will be the official match ball at next summer's World Cup in Brazil. The Brazuca, which means 'Brazilian' and refers to the Brazilian way of life, was launched in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday. The new ball is the most-tested adidas ball in history, having been worked on over a two-and-a-half year period and used by over 600 players, including Iker Casillas, Lionel Messi and Bastian Schweinsteiger. Made up of six identical panels which 'will provide improved grip, touch, stability and aerodynamics on the pitch', the Brazuca's colours and ribbon design symbolise the traditional multi-coloured wish bracelets worn in Brazil. The Brazuca was used at a selection of international football matches, including last February's friendly between Sweden and Argentina, and the feeback from players was been positive."My first impression of 'Brazuca' is of a ball that is fantastic and we're going to have a lot of fun with it," said Barcelona and Brazil full-back Dani Alves."Adidas has created an incredible-looking ball fitting for a tournament as big as the FIFA World Cup."Most importantly it plays well on the ground and in the air. I'm sure all the players will love it."It's increased my levels of excitement even further and I honestly cannot wait for the opening game."
