Spurs'  Andros Townsend to miss world cup



The Tottenham Journal understands that Andros Townsend has been sidelined for six weeks due to the ankle injury he sustained at Stoke on Saturday, ruling him out of the World Cup.

Townsend came off the bench in the 78th minute at the Britannia Stadium but, shortly after coming on, the winger was hurt after a challenge from Stoke’s Erik Pieters, leaving the stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

MRI scans have revealed ligament damage which is expected to keep the winger out for six weeks, ending his hopes of playing for England in Brazil this summer.

Following further examination and consultation, Andros Townsend is to undergo surgery on his left ankle on Thursday (tomorrow) after damaging ligaments during our fixture against Stoke City last Saturday.

The injury will sideline the young winger for 10 weeks
