Serie A: Juventus confirmed as champions as Roma lose 4-1 at Catania Relegation contenders Catania decided the final destination of the Serie A title with a 4-1 victory over Roma that confirmed Juventus as champions. Rudi Garcia's second-placed Roma travelled to Sicily eight points behind Juve and knowing only victory here
would maintain their slim hopes of denying the Turin giants their third straight championship.
Two first-half goals from Mariano Izco and later strikes from Gonzalo Bergessio and Pablo Barrientos sealed Roma's fate,
while lifting Catania, who for the majority of their dismal campaign were rooted to the bottom of the table, to within three points of safety with two games remaining.
In Sunday's late game
AC Milan edged city rivals Inter Milan 1-0 in a dismal Derby della Madonnina encounter to return to the race for Europe. Nigel de Jong's header meant what little glory there was to take from the evening went to Milan,
who climbed to eighth place where they lie three points and three places behind Inter with two games of the season remaining.
Earlier, three goals in 12 first-half minutes set Udinese on course for a 5-3 home rout of strugglers Livorno.
The visitors looked like they were going to have a good afternoon when Paulo Sergio Betanin put them ahead in the 13th minute.
Udinese captain Antonio Di Natale missed an opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot but in the 19th minute he scored in open play.
Emmanuel Badu then put Udinese in front in the 21st minute only for Betanin to pull Livorno level before the half-hour mark.
Udinese hit back as Roberto Pereyra, Gabriel and Di Natale all found the net before half-time.
Djamel Mesbah cut the gap two minutes from time but Livorno fell to defeat and the foot of the table.
Parma's quest for European football is back on track after a 2-0 home victory over Sampdoria snapped a two-game losing streak.
Goals from Antonio Cassano and Ezequiel Schelotto dragged Parma to within a single point of Torino before the two clubs meet at the Stadio Olimpico next weekend.
Gennaro Sardo's own goal handed Torino a narrow 1-0 victory at 10-man Chievo to move the Granata closer to Europa League football next season.
Bologna earned a valuable point in their battle to avoid the drop with a goalless draw at Genoa.
