Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna 'nearing move to Manchester City after agreeing three-year deal'May 22, 2014 14:52 By Liam Prenderville
The French defender is set to leave the Emirates after seven years in north London with City's contract offer thought to be worth over £100,000-a-week Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna is on the verge of completing his switch to Manchester City. Sagna has long been touted with a move to the Etihad after failing to agree a new deal with the Gunners.
The Frenchman, now 31, wanted a new three-year deal but the club's policy for over 30 year-olds is to only offer them a one or two year extension. And after reportedly telling his Arsenal team-mates he was joining City before last weekend's FA Cup final,
Sagna is close to finalising the move. City's contract offer - believed to be worth over £100,000-a-week - will tie the defender down until 2018. Turkish champions Fenerbahce, Inter Milan and Manchester United have also been linked with a move
but Sagna is set to become the latest Arsenal player to move to the Premier League champions.
Since Sheikh Mansour took over the club in 2008, Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri have all exited north London for Manchester.

Bacary Sagna set to sign for Manchester City on £120,000-a-week deal• Right-back is out of contract at Arsenal• City also hopeful of signing Porto’s Fernando Manchester City are on the verge of announcing the signing of Bacary Sagna on a free transfer from Arsenal, with the right-back to earn at least £120,000 a week. The
31-year-old is thought to have agreed a three-year deal to take him to the Premier League champions and strengthen Manuel Pellegrini’s defensive options.
Given City’s £49m net transfer budget for the summer due to Uefa’s financial fair play punishment, the acquisition of Sagna for no fee will cause relief at the Etihad Stadium.
City are also understood to be close to signing Porto’s Fernando for around £20m, though the move to land his team-mate, Eliaquim Mangala, still requires further work.
