The first signing for Newcastle United of what hopefully will be a hectic summer could be completed soon according to reports in France



Newcastle United are on the verge of sealing the deal which would bring Remy Cabella to the club.

Highly respected sports magazine L’Equipe have today reported that Newcastle and Montpellier

have “almost agreed” a fee of around £7million for the talented 24-year-old playmaker.

This will come as a huge relief, not only to manager Alan Pardew, but also the supporters who are more than aware their club have no choice but to spend big this summer.

If Cabella’s move could be sealed over the next 48 hours, it would send out a message that Newcastle mean business and have learned from past mistakes.

It would be an excellent start to what hopefully is the busiest transfer window in years.

With Jack Colback looking likely to join West Ham United on July 1, it makes the purchase of Cabella even more important.

While Newcastle fans are understandably cynical about what their club will do this transfer window, Cabella is an exciting talent who could potentially fill the boots of Yohan Cabaye.

MONTPELLIER have told Newcastle they must cough up at least £12million for midfield maestro Remy Cabella after rejecting an initial offer of around £6m.

The 24-year-old, who made his debut for France in their 4-0 win over Norway on Tuesday, looks set for a move to St James' Park after expressing his desire to play in the Premier League, and Alan Pardew is keen to wrap a deal after seeing his team crumble in the second half of last season.

The Toon boss, who already has an army of Frenchman at his disposal, saw key man Yohan Cabaye depart for Paris St-Germain in January, and feels Cabella is the perfect replacement.

Reports earlier claimed Newcastle had lodged a successful bid with the Ligue 1 outfit, but Montpellier have confirmed that Pardew's offer has fallen well short of their valuation.

Head of recruitment Laurent Nicollin explained: "For ten days, we have received two or three offers, including ?8million that does not match our expectations.

Newcastle tried to sign the 24-year-old in January, but he was committed to helping Montpellier avoid relegation before leaving -

but he was quick to confirm he would be leaving once the Ligue 1 season had finished.

Sources have told Sky Sports that Newcastle are yet to lodge an official bid, but the two clubs are closing on a deal which could be worth up to ?10million.
