REUS OUT OF WORLD CUP; MUSTAFI CALLED UP 
Mainz - Borussia Dortmund and Germany ace Marco Reus will miss the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil after injuring ligaments in Germany's 6-1 friendly win over Armenia on Friday evening.The 25-year-old limped off before half-time after landing awkwardly on his left ankle and was withdrawn from 1. FSV Mainz 05's Coface Arena in visible distress.
On Saturday, it was confirmed by the German Football Association (DFB) that he will miss the World Cup as a result.
'Extremely saddening' Reus was immediately taken to hospital after the injury, where an MRI scan revealed that he had suffered a partial tear of the syndesmosis ligaments. The DFB announced on Saturday morning that
Reus will out of action "for up to seven or eight weeks", meaning he will not play a part in the World Cup."It's extremely saddening for him and for us," said Germany coach Joachim Low.
"Marco was in great shape and had made a fantastic impression in the training camp and in our games against Cameroon and Armenia.
He was set to play a pivotal role in our plans for Brazil."
The Dortmund-born star had been in prolific form of late, scoring eight league goals and assisting nine in just 13 games in the second half of the season for BVB, and was a strong candidate for a starting spot against the Portuguese.
Mustafi called up Germany will now depart from Frankfurt-am-Main airport for Salvador at 22.00 CEST on Saturday evening without Reus,
but with UC Sampdoria's Shkodran Mustafi, who has been called into the squad as the BVB man's replacement. "It was not about finding a like-for-like replacement for Reus," commented Low.
"We already have plenty of quality alternatives in our attacking midfield with Lukas Podolski,
Andre Schurrle, Mario Gotze, Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil, Julian Draxler and Toni Kroos.
"That's why we've opted for a further defensive option.
Shkodran convinced us during our training camp, he's fit and we have faith in him. We know that we can rely on him 100 per cent."
Germany start their World Cup campaign against Portugal on 16 June and also face the USA and Ghana in Group G as they bid for a fourth World Cup title.
