Transfer news: Qatar club Al-Sadd eye Newcastle defender Steven Taylor Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has emerged as a target for Qatar club Al-Sadd, Sky Sports understands. Taylor's future at St James' Park has been the subject of speculation for some time after finding himself out of favour under Alan Pardew for most of last season. The 28-year-old found his first-team chances at St James' Park limited last term
with Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson the first-choice central defensive partnership in Pardew's side. A number of clubs in England and abroad have been linked with a move for Taylor and now big-spending Al-Sadd are weighing up a move for the former England Under 21 international.
Al-Sadd are thought to be ready to offer Taylor a lucrative long-term deal to try and lure him away from Newcastle as they look to bolster their squad. Taylor, who has two years left on his contract, is understood to be happy to stay and fight for his place at Newcastle,
but could be tempted away if he not assured regular first-team football.
