Alvaro Morata transfer: Wolfsburg make £15.9 million offer for Arsenal target - report Arsenal could be set to miss out on Alvaro Morata after Wolfsburg submitted a ?20 million (£15.9 million) offer for the Real Madrid striker, according to reports in Spain. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is actively looking for a new striker to add to his squad to mount a title challenge for next season
and has been credited with an interest in signing Morata, who scored eight goals in La Liga last season.
The 21-year-old has been on the fringes of the Real Madrid team after falling behind Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian coach has already confirmed he will allow Morata to leave the club this summer after being limited to just three league starts.
However,
the North London club now face a battle for his signature as Wolfsburg, backed by the riches of German car-maker Volkswagen, have moved to sign the promising Spain Under-21 international, according to Spanish newspaper AS.
AS report that the Wolfsburg director Klaus Allofs will travel to Madrid next week to convince Morata to make the move to the ambitious Bundesliga outfit. Their offer is said to be slightly higher than the ?18 million (£14.3 million) that Juventus have offered so far.But with a five-year deal on the table and the lure of Champions League football, it is thought that Morata would favour a move to the Serie A champions.
Arsenal could still join the race to sign the towering forward and a switch to the Premier League could be appealing for Morata.
But with Real Madrid insisting on inserting a clause that would give them the option to buy Morata back for a fixed fee,
they may switch their focus to other targets such as Mario Mandzukic and Mario Balotelli.
