Transfer news: Arturo Vidal 'not going to Manchester United' as he waits on Juventus talks



Arturo Vidal has told the Italian press that he will not be going to Manchester United this summer,

but admits he still does not know if he will be staying at Juventus and is waiting to hold talks over his future on Monday.

There has been intense speculation that the midfielder could be on the move since before the transfer window opened, but he has repeatedly played down the reports.

He kept his focus on Chile at the World Cup and is still enjoying a break before reporting back to Juve, where he has been a key player for the past three years.

The 27-year-old will speak to new boss Massimiliano Allegri at the start of next week and admits his future is uncertain, but appears to have ruled out a switch to Old Trafford.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Vidal insisted that he was still enjoying life in Turin and urged fans not to worry.

Vidal, who is under contract until 2017, said: "I'm still on holiday at the moment.

Can I say I'm staying at Juve? I don't know. On Monday I'll talk to Allegri then we'll see.

"I'm happy here. I'm calm. I believe Juve fans can be too. I still haven't spoken to Allegri or my team-mates."

Asked if he was going to Manchester United, he added: "No, no."

A number of clubs have been linked with Vidal this summer but United were reportedly leading the chase and they are prepared to spend heavily if necessary.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward stated earlier this week: "The reality is that we're not afraid of spending significant amounts of money in the transfer market.

"Whether it's a record or not doesn't really resonate with us. What resonates is a top, top elite player that the manager wants that is going to be a star for Manchester United."

United quoted over £45m for Vidal



Juventus have told Manchester United that they will need to bid over 45 million pounds if the Premier League side are to sign Arturo Vidal, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Chile midfielder has had an impressive World Cup despite a lack of fitness, but has been a United target for far longer.

The English club first began to properly enquire about the 27-year-old in January.

Sources state United have picked up their interest in the player over the past few weeks, and Vidal himself is understood to be open to the idea.

Arsenal are also seen to be in the running.

Juventus, however, remain unwilling to sell their star player,

while any negotiations are likely to be complicated as it will take an offer of over 45 million pounds to even make the Italian side consider the possibility.

Vidal would represent a huge coup for United, given that he would be both the "marquee name" that the hierarchy crave, but also see a key position filled.

The Red Devils are intent on a significant statement this summer, and are ready to spend over 150 million pounds.

Around 60 million pounds has already been paid out on Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, but manager Louis van Gaal is keen to bring in at least one midfielder and one centre-half.

It is expected that a deal for Thomas Vermaelen will be struck with Arsenal in the next few weeks,

although both a fee and a medical have to be finalised, with the Belgium centre-half recently struggling with injury.

Van Gaal reignites Manchester United Vidal interest



Manchester United will persist in their pursuit of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal at the insistence of new manager Louis van Gaal,

despite being told the Italian outfit want ?57 million plus Nani in exchange.

United had been discouraged from their attempts to sign the Chile international after the Serie A champions demanded such a high fee.

But Van Gaal, who tried to sign the 27-year-old during his time as manager of Bayern Munich in 2011, remains a big fan of Vidal and United are now reconsidering their position.

Talks between the player's camp and Old Trafford officials are understood to have taken place this week,

and United are exploring whether a deal can be agreed with Juve.


Vidal has enjoyed a successful spell in Turin thus far, winning three consecutive Serie A titles with Juventus.

An injury cast doubt over his involvement in the World Cup,

but the midfielder was one of the star performers in an impressive Chile side that was knocked out of the competition by Brazil in a penalty shootout.

Van Gaal has already secured two signings this transfer window with Ander Herrera arriving from Athletic Bilbao and Luke Shaw joining from Southampton.

And United are ready to keep on spending, financing the squad overhaul partly through player sales.

Van Gaal is understood to be open to offers for a number of players this summer, with the futures of Marouane Fellaini, Ashley Young, Shinji Kagawa and Javier Hernandez all uncertain.

The 62-year-old has also told United that he will not take any holiday once Netherlands’ World Cup campaign has ended and will begin work at Carrington next week.

Juventus star Arturo Vidal insists he is enjoying his holiday rather than thinking about his future, as he continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United.

The Chilean midfielder is widely reported to be high on Louis van Gaal's list of summer targets,

as the Dutchman prepares to take control at Old Trafford after Holland's World Cup campaign ended with victory in the third place play-off clash against Brazil on Saturday.

Vidal had a hugely impressive World Cup finals,

helping Chile to the last 16 and whilst Juventus insist he will be staying - questions continue to be asked over his long-term future in Turin.

Speaking to Chile's La Tercera, when asked about United he said: "I've heard about the rumours, but I haven't spoken more about this subject.

"I'm enjoying my holidays, and when I return to Italy I'll see what happens.

"I'm very calm, but anyone would love to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Vidal could very well join fellow countryman Alexis Sanchez in England,

after he completed a move to Arsenal this week - and he thinks his switch to North London will be a successful one.

"I am happy for him, he needed to take a step like this and at Arsenal he will be able to do things very well."
