Samir Nasri: Man City close to extending playmaker's contract

Samir Nasri is expected to sign a new long-term contract with Manchester City when he returns to pre-season training next week.
The 27-year-old midfielder's existing deal expires next year and club officials want to extend it by a further four years.
A verbal agreement was reached before Nasri departed for the summer break.
The former Arsenal man had a superb season for City although he was not selected in France's World Cup squad.
Former manager Roberto Mancini paid a reported £25m to bring Nasri to the Etihad Stadium from the Gunners in 2011.
He suffered a loss of form during the Italian's final season in charge of the club but has been rejuvenated under Manuel Pellegrini
and scored seven goals in 34 appearances last term as City regained their Premier League crown.
Whether James Milner will follow Nasri's lead is unclear.
The England man, 28, also sees his deal expire in 2015 but has been frustrated by a lack of opportunities to play in his preferred central midfield role.

Reports suggest that Manchester City are expected to confirm later today that Samir Nasri has signed a new four-year deal.
The Frenchman was one of City’s most consistent performers last season and appears to have committed his future to the club until 2018.

Premier League: Manchester City's Samir Nasri pens a new five-year deal



Samir Nasri has signed a new five-year deal with Manchester City.

The Frenchman, who joined City from Arsenal in 2011, has committed his long-term future to the Premier League champions with a deal that runs until 2019.

“I’m really happy to have signed this contract and to have committed my future with City,” he told the club's website.

“I’m 27 now and if you listen to some of the best managers in the game,


they say that a midfield player’s best years are between 27 and 30 so I hope that I will give my best years to City.

“It took me time to adjust to living in Manchester because when you move here from London, it is a big change,

but last year everything was perfect – I enjoyed my football and I love living in Manchester, feel very settled and I think that showed on the pitch.

“That’s why I’ve agreed this new contract – because I feel very much at home. Our supporters have been right behind me and it gives me the confidence to play my best game.

Now I’m looking forward to the new season and to defending our title again.”

Nasri has played 129 in his three seasons at the Ethiad Stadium, scoring 22 goals.
