Liverpool target transfer of Wilfried Bony from Swansea to replace Luis Suarez up frontJul 10, 2014 22:31 By Darren Lewis
Ivory Coast World Cup striker scored 25 goals in his debut season of British football and has a ¢G19million release clause in his Swans contract Liverpool have targeted Wilfried Bony as Brendan Rodgers continues his summer revamp. Swansea striker Bony, who scored 25 times last season after a move from Vitesse Arnhem in Holland,
is one of the options the Champions League-bound Reds are considering as they complete the ¢G75million sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.
The 25-year-old Ivory Coast World Cup forward has told friends he is desperate for the Anfield giants to make the ¢G19m bid that will trigger his release clause. Swansea, who paid Arnhem ¢G12m for Bony a year ago, have made it clear they will not sell unless his buy-out clause is met.
That price tag has already scared off West Ham, but Tottenham are interested. Bony is adamant he does not want to stay at the Welsh club with the opportunity to play at a higher level in his grasp. Rodgers is also poised to tie up the signing of Benfica winger Lazar Markovic within days.
Markovic is set to fly to Merseyside over the next 24 hours for a medical before joining from the Portuguese club for a fee of ¢G20m.
The 20-year-old Serbia international scored 12 times in 49 appearances last season.
He will join Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Emre Can,
who have all been brought in as Rodgers builds a squad capable of challenging in both the Champions League and Premier League.
