Transfer news: Sunderland sign Patrick van Aanholt from Chelsea



Sunderland have completed the signing of Holland international left-back Patrick van Aanholt from Chelsea on a four-year deal.

Van Aanholt, 23, joins the Black Cats for an undisclosed fee and becomes their fourth new signing of the summer.

He has a pair of international caps to his name

and was in former Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal’s 30-man provisional squad ahead of the recent World Cup, although he did not make it into the final 23-man party.

Van Aanholt joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in 2007 but has made only eight appearances for the first team and has spent the last two seasons on loan with Vitesse Arnhem.

He now becomes the latest signing by Sunderland boss Gus Poyet, who has already brought in Billy Jones, Costel Pantilimon and Jordi Gomez this summer.

Poyet has been eager to add a new left-back, with Marcos Alonso's loan spell from Fiorentina having finished at the end of last season.

Patrick van Aanholt: Sunderland close to deal for Chelsea defender



Sunderland are close to a deal to sign Chelsea left-back Patrick van Aanholt, reports BBC Newcastle.
The 23-year-old, who has a year to run on his contract, spent the last two-and-a-half seasons at Vitesse Arnhem.
Dutchman Van Aanholt, who has played eight times for Chelsea, has also had loan spells at Wigan, Leicester, Newcastle and Coventry.
Head coach Gus Poyet is keen to sign a left-back after Marcos Alonso's loan spell finished at the end of last term.
Fiorentina defender Alonso has been part of the Viola's pre-season campaign this summer, but made 20 appearances for the Wearsiders in 2013-14.
Poyet has already signed defender Billy Jones from West Brom, Wigan midfielder Jordi Gomez and goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon from Manchester City so far this transfer window
Fabio Borini has also been linked with a return to Wearside, with a fee agreed with Liverpool, although Poyet has admitted his frustration at delays in adding new players this summer.

The player becomes the Black Cats’ fourth summer signing, following the arrivals of Billy Jones, Costel Pantilimon and Jordi Gomez.
