Dani Alves commits to Barcelona with two-year contract extension



Dani Alves has ended speculation over his future by signing a two-year contract extension with Barcelona.

The 32-year-old defender was due to be a free agent this summer after reportedly stalling on a new deal.

That led to speculation that he could be on the move, with Manchester United, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain as potential destinations.

However, the Brazilian has now committed his future to Barca by signing a contract until 2017, with an option for a further year.

A statement from Barcelona read: "Barcelona announces that Dani Alves has accepted the club's proposal to renew his contract that expired on June 30.

"The new deal will see the player tied up for two seasons, until June 30, 2017, with an option for a third."

The announcement comes on the same day that Pedro and Jordi Alba penned new long-term contracts and just 24 hours after Aleix Vidal signed from Sevilla.

Alves also joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2008 and has since played 343 matches, winning 19 titles, including La Liga five times and the Champions League on three occasions.

The Brazilian had looked set to leave the Nou Camp at the end of the month when his contract expired, but will stay in Catalonia until 2017 now.

There is also a clause in place to extend the contract for a third year.

Man Utd could miss out after Dani Alves reveals offer from Italy

Out-of-contract Barcelona defender Dani Alves has said it would be a pleasure to sign for AC Milan and has revealed he has an offer from Italy.

The 32-year-old Brazilian, who lifted the Champions League as his final action for Barca on Saturday, has reportedly been a target for Manchester United this summer.

Alves' agent said in April that he was close to signing a pre-contract agreement with an unnamed club and, after playing in Barca's 3-1 victory over Juventus in Berlin, he told Sky Italia: "It would be a pleasure to join Milan.

"There is a proposal from Italy and I will evaluate all the alternatives before deciding."

Dinorah Santana, Alves' long-term representative, confirmed last month that the right-back had turned down a new contract offer from Barca, where he has spent the last seven years.

She said: "Dani has a concrete offer on the table for a three-year deal plus the option for an extra year with a better wage than he has at Barca, and a signing on fee."

Alves signed from Sevilla in 2008 and has made over 300 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 14 La Liga goals.

In his time at the Nou Camp, Alves has won three Champions Leagues, five La Liga trophies and the Copa del Rey on four occassions.  

Alves also has 79 caps and six goals for Brazil.

Barcelona defender Dani Alves has not ruled out staying at club

Dani Alves has not yet ruled out staying at Barcelona but insists he won't reach a definitive decision on his future until the end of the season.

The right-back, who is reportedly being pursued by Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, is out of contract at the end of June.

His agent Dinorah Santana revealed last week that the 31-year-old had turned down an offer of a new deal, paving the way for him to join a new club on a free transfer this summer.

But the Brazil international revealed he is happy where he is and has hinted that he would like to continue playing at the Camp Nou, although he admits a lot depends on how willing Barca are to offer him a satisfactory new deal.

He told beIN SPORTS: "I am approaching the end of my contract with the same ambition with which I came to Barcelona. Barca changed my life because the club allowed me to reach my dreams.

"I am very happy in this club and I have not signed for another club. If there are clubs that offer me a new alternative or I am not at the level that Barcelona desire I will be willing to contemplate other options.

"I will take a decision at the end of the season."

Barcelona defender Dani Alves set to leave club at end of season, says agent

Dani Alves is set to leave Barcelona after rejecting an offer to extend his contract beyond the end of the season, his agent confirmed on Thursday.

Dinorah Santana said the Catalan giants had offered the 31-year-old right-back a deal that could stretch from one year to three should he play in over 60 per cent of his side's games each season.

However, Alves has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United among a host of other top European clubs and Santana said he had better offers on the table from other clubs.

"He would accept three years, but the condition that a player plays 60 percent of the games every year for me is not a three-year deal, but a one year," said Santana.

"Dani has a concrete offer on the table for a three-year deal plus the option for an extra year with a better wage than he has here and a signing on fee.

"Barca at the moment have told me that they will not match those figures and we understand that."

The Brazilian has made over 300 appearances and won 16 trophies at the Camp Nou since joining from Sevilla in 2008.

His absence would cause the Spanish club major problems for next season as they are banned for registering new players until January 2016 due to a FIFA sanction for irregularities in the signing of minors.
