English Premier League leaders Chelsea are in the process of recruiting a Japan international.

The London club's move to add an Asian footballer to Jose Mourinho's senior squad coincides with its recently agreed shirt sponsorship deal with Yokohama Rubber.

Mourinho is on board with the decision to sign a Japanese player and it is understood the manager will include the new recruit in Chelsea's preseason preparations before deciding whether he forms a part of their full Premier League squad, or is sent out on loan to obtain more playing time in Europe.

Yokohama Rubber's contract with Chelsea is worth a basic £200million over its five-year term.

According to sources in Japan, the multinational tire manufacturer has welcomed Chelsea's decision to recruit from the J.League, believing it will allow Yokohama to extract additional value from the agreement in Asia.

Chelsea – who are also exploring the possibility of a postseason tour of Japan – are confident that Asia's strongest domestic league is worth exploring in its own right.

The club has been scouting Japan national team players, including FC Tokyo's 22-year-old forward Yoshinori Muto, but is yet to conclude any deal.

Six Japanese footballers have appeared in the Premier League. Junichi Inamoto, who was signed by Arsene Wenger ahead of the 2002 World Cup and subsequently played in England's top tier for Fulham and West Bromwich Albion.

Kazuyuki Toda played four games for Tottenham in the 2002-03 season, while Hidetoshi Nakata called an early halt to what was once a stellar career after a depressing year chasing long balls at Bolton Wanderers.

Shinji Kagawa won the Premier League title in his first season at Manchester United, but was sold back to Borussia Dortmund in August.

Ryo Miyaichi joined Arsenal from high school in January 2011 and is currently at FC Twente after previous loan spells at Bolton and Wigan Athletic.

Maya Yoshida has made 57 Premier League appearances during his three campaigns at Southampton, who recently extended the central defender's contract until 2018.

日本足球網站《Football Channel》周一引述消息人士報道，指FC東京前鋒武藤嘉紀已經與車路士達成轉會協議，來季將會轉戰英超。雖然報道未有透露轉會金額，不過有指今次的轉會費將會是歷來亞洲球員的最高金額。

武藤嘉紀可說是近年日職聯的超新星，早於大學時期已經漸露頭角，2013年成為了唯一一位入選全日本大學對抗賽最佳11人的2年級生。2014年被FC東京提升至一隊後，武藤嘉紀瞬速融入職業足球的比賽節奏，處子賽季已經錄得13個聯賽入球，繼小野伸二和中澤佑二後，成為史上第3位入選日職最佳11人的新丁。

出色的表現令武藤出道首季已經入選日本國家隊，2014年9月對烏拉圭的友賽中獲得生涯第1頂喼帽。武藤嘉紀在今年初的亞洲盃亦有入選，並且被日本傳媒盛讚為藍武士的「後備殺手」，在對約旦的分組賽中貢獻了1次助攻。

雖然武藤嘉紀轉會車路士的消息仍未獲得官方確認，不過假如今次轉會屬實的話，武藤將來所面對的挑戰可謂相當巨大，過去曾經有過中田英壽和香川真司等甚具歐洲足球經驗的日本球員登陸英超，可惜發展並不理想。而稻本潤一和宮市亮等曾經被譽為日本新希望的年青球員在另一支倫敦豪門阿仙奴的發展同樣不如意，武藤嘉紀要在球星雲集的車路士衝出重圍相信仍有一段漫長的路。

Transfer news: Chelsea make bid for Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto

Chelsea have made a bid for FC Tokyo's Japan international striker Yoshinori Muto, the J-League side have claimed.

The striker, who only graduated two weeks ago from Keio University after completing an economics degree, represented Japan during the Asian Cup in January and has retained his place in the squad under new coach Vahid Halilhodzic.

The bid from the Blues is reported to be around £4m and a spokesman for the Japanese club said: "It is true that we have received an official offer from Chelsea for Muto. But nothing has been decided."

The new J-League season started last month and Muto has impressed, notching three goals in his first four appearances to help Tokyo sit third. He struck 13 goals last year and was named in the J-League's best XI.

Muto told the Japanese press: "I'm honoured to receive an offer from this wonderful team, but I have not made any decision yet."

Chelsea, who have a seven-point lead in the Premier League with only eight games remaining, recently announced their 'largest ever commercial deal' with Japanese tyre firm, Yokohama Rubber Company.

Japanese players have struggled to make an impact in the Premier Leaue in recent years, with Muto's international team-mate Shinji Kagawa rejoining Borussia Dortmund after a difficult spell with Manchester United.

Maya Yoshida has battled to hold on to a first-team role at Southampton, while Tadanari Lee left the south coast club last year after failing to make a lasting impression.

日媒：武藤嘉紀揀緬恩斯



日本傳媒指出，國腳武藤嘉紀將會投身德甲球隊緬恩斯，放棄車路士的邀請。現年22歲、效力FC東京的日本前鋒，據報緬恩斯已同球員的代表達成初步協議，來季加盟旗下，轉會費大約是300萬歐元（約2,600萬港元），並將會與國家隊隊友岡崎慎司成為拍檔。早前，有指武藤獲得車路士注意，並且會透過新的日本贊助商，羅致日本國腳，轉會費亦接近600萬美元，但據稱武藤因為擔心在車路士無法爭取出場機會，故決定放棄，改而選擇緬恩斯。
