Jay Rodriguez: Southampton striker signs new contract Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez has signed a new contract with the Premier League club until 2019.The 25-year-old has been out since April 2014 after rupturing his anterior cruciate knee ligament, but recently returned to full training.Signed from Burnley in 2012, he has scored 21 goals and made his England debut in November 2013 against Chile.
"It's been a tough year," he told the club's website. "It's now about looking forward to the future."
He added: "I'm delighted. It's a great club and we've done amazingly this year."
Rodriguez's previous deal was due to run until 2016 and he was linked with a summer move to Tottenham, despite the injury suffered in a 4-1 defeat at Manchester City, after scoring 17 goals last season.
"This is very good news for the club because there was some speculation about Jay and interest from other big clubs," said Southampton manager Ronald Koeman.
"It is a compliment to the club that we have an agreement."
