Slaven Bilic: West Ham appoint former defender as manager



West Ham have named former defender Slaven Bilic as their new manager.
The 46-year-old replaces Sam Allardyce, who left by mutual consent last month after the Hammers finished 12th in the Premier League.
Bilic, who played 54 times for the Upton Park side between 1996 and 1997, signs a three-year deal as manager.
He managed Croatia for six years, beating England twice in the Euro 2008 qualifiers, and Lokomotiv Moscow and Besiktas, whom he left in May.
"It is a great place to play and I felt like I was at home," Bilic said of his appointment at West Ham.
"It is a big privilege and a big responsibility to now be manager and I hope that I will prove it to the board, players and fans.
"When I spoke to the chairmen and Karren Brady, they made clear that it is not only the fantastic new [Olympic] Stadium we are moving into, but they showed their determination and ambition to make what is a big club even bigger.
"I could feel that they really wanted me so it was an easy choice. I would say to the West Ham fans that I will give my best and together we will achieve great things.
"I remember West Ham as a special club. My last club, Besiktas, was that kind of club. It's not about the size - there is something special about them - they are a cult club."
In May he announced his intention to leave Turkish side Besiktas, after failing to win the league title in his two years at the Istanbul club and missing out on Champions League qualification for next season.
Bilic spent 2012-13 in charge of Lokomotiv, but was sacked after leading them to a ninth-place finish, their worst season since the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991.

West Ham discussing manager's job with Frank de Boer, Unai Emery, Slaven Bilic and Marcelo Bielsa



The Hammers are keen to appoint a new boss within the next 10 days after former manager Sam Allardyce's contract was not renewed and he left the club last week.

Ajax boss De Boer, whose side finished runners-up to PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie this season, was in contention for the Tottenham job before they hired Mauricio Pochettino last summer and has retained a desire to manage in England.

Besiktas boss Bilic, meanwhile, has an affinity with West Ham having played over 50 times for the club and is also believed to be keen to manage in the Premier League.

Unai Emery is the Sevilla head coach who has clinched two successive Europa League trophies and Argentinian Bielsa is the current boss at Marseille.

Last week, Hammers co-owner David Sullivan promised supporters there would be imminent signings and a 'big-name' manager.

He said: "I am dedicating every waking minute to recruiting the best available manager to drive our club forwards.

"It is a constantly changing landscape but we are being absolutely thorough in our search, by speaking to representatives of a number of managers and doing our own due diligence on each one.

"Given that, I am not expecting us to make an appointment for at least a week as we must do everything we can to get this appointment right."

West Ham in talks with Unai Emery



West Ham are to hold talks with Sevilla manager Unai Emery in the next 48 hours over their vacant manager’s position, according to Sky sources.

Emery has won plaudits and trophies in equal measure in recent seasons, his stock further enhanced after his side retained the Europa League with victory over Dnipro last week.

The 43-year-old is also understood to be on Napoli's radar after the Serie A club lost Rafa Benitez to Real Madrid.

Last week, Hammers co-owner David Sullivan promised supporters there would be imminent signings and a 'big-name' manager.

He said: "I am dedicating every waking minute to recruiting the best available manager to drive our club forwards.

"It is a constantly changing landscape but we are being absolutely thorough in our search, by speaking to representatives of a number of managers and doing our own due diligence on each one.

"Given that, I am not expecting us to make an appointment for at least a week as we must do everything we can to get this appointment right."

Ajax boss Frank de Boer, former Hammers stalwart Slaven Bilic and Marseille coach Marcelo Bielsa are others to have been linked with the vacancy created by Sam Allardyce's departure after four years at the Boleyn Ground.

West Ham United hope to name new boss 'within 48 hours'

West Ham United hope to appoint a new manager "within the next 48 hours" after interviewing a number of applicants over the weekend.
The Premier League club are seeking a replacement for Sam Allardyce who left last month after four years in charge.
"With the shortlist now narrowed down, talks are entering an advanced stage with the favoured candidates," said a West Ham statement  on Monday.
Former Hammers defender Slaven Bilic has been linked with the job.
Bilic, 46, managed Croatia between 2006-12 and announced last month he was leaving Turkish side Besiktas.
Former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was also linked with West Ham,  along with Real Sociedad's ex-Everton manager David Moyes.
Klopp, 47, has since revealed he is taking a break from management.
West Ham finished 12th in the league this season.
"We would like someone who has managed successfully in one of the major leagues in the world," West Ham joint-chairman David Gold has said.
"We want to bring in an established manager who has been there and done it."
