Liverpool have not put Lucas Leiva on the transfer list but will listen to offers for the midfielder, according to Sky sources.

The 28-year-old Brazil international did not feature in the Reds' squad for their 1-0 opening weekend win at Stoke City.

Lucas also made just 16 Premier League starts last season and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has also brought in England midfielder James Milner following Steven Gerrard's departure to LA Galaxy.

Lucas has been an important first-team player under a succession of managers at Anfield, having signed for the club from Gremio in 2007, but has found his playing time limited under Brendan Rodgers.

He has made over 250 appearances for the club, scoring five goals, but has fallen behind the likes of Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho in midfield.

Lucas has 24 caps for Brazil having made his international debut in 2007.

BESIKTAS IN LUCAS TALKS

Besiktas say they are in talks to sign midfielder Lucas Leiva from Liverpool.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Turkish club are hoping to take the Brazilian on a season-long long loan.

Besiktas transfer committee head Erdal Torunogulları is quoted as saying by Lig TV: “Lucas is a player on our shortlist, talks are ongoing.”

Besiktas are in talks with Liverpool over the signing of Lucas Leiva on a season-long loan deal, according to Sky Sources.

Lucas is Liverpool's longest-serving player but has fallen out of favour at Anfield and failed to make either of Brendan Rodgers' starting line-ups for their opening two Premier League wins over Stoke and Bournemouth.

The Turkish side say they are confident of signing the Brazilian midfielder, who has two years remaining on his current contract, within the next two days.

Besiktas are in the market for a midfielder following injuries to Toglay Arslan and Veli Kavlak.

Lucas Leiva is set to leave Liverpool and join Turkish club Besiktas on a season-long loan deal.

Brendon Rodgers is keen to offload the Brazilian and Besiktas have confirmed they are in talks over a potential deal.

Director Erol Kaynar said: "A loan deal is likely. It could go ahead within the next two days."

The 28-year-old Brazilian was left out of the squad by Brendan Rodgers for Liverpool's opening Premier League fixtures with Stoke City and Bournemouth.
Despite making 32 appearances for the Reds in all competitions last season, Rodgers has indicated that he sees Emre Can as the team's first choice holding midfielder and so Lucas will be loaned out until the end of the campaign.
The experienced Lucas has made 275 appearances for the Merseyside club since joining from Gremio for £5m back in 2007, scoring six goals.
Besiktas, who knocked Liverpool out of the UEFA Europa League last season, are in need of reinforcements in midfield following early-season injuries to Toglay Arslan and Veli Kavlak.

The Black Eagles sit fourth in the Turkish league table after one win and one defeat from their opening two matches.
Liverpool, who have won both their matches 1-0 so far, travel to Arsenal on Monday evening
