President Maurizio Zamparini confirms Palermo are 'down to the final details' to sign Guangzhou Evergrande's Alberto Gilardino.

The Rosanero are believed to have set up a double offer for the Chinese club, which would allow them to sign the striker either on a loan or as a full purchase.

Il Corriere dello Sport reported today that a deal is unlikely to be found before Palermo's first Serie A game against Genoa, but Zamparini himself sounded very optimistic.

“We're in the final phase,” he confirmed, in an interview with Il Giornale di Sicilia. “It's down to the last few details.

“The player's own decision weighed into the operation a lot.

“He wants to join us, and even if he isn't ready for the first game [in Serie A], he'll certainly be available for [Coach Giuseppe] Iachini on the Sunday after that.”

Yesterday was the medical and tomorrow or Friday Alberto Gilardino should be officially confirmed as a new player of Palermo.
The player has spent today talking to what he hopes will be his future team-mates as he waits for his former club Guangzhou to give him the green light to sign.
Despite late interest from Lazio, it seems just a matter of time now before Gilardino wears the pink jersey of Palermo.

GILARDINO RETURNS TO ITALY

Alberto Gilardino will return to Serie A permanently after Palermo announced his arrival from Guangzhou Evergrande, reports FourFourTwo.

The 33-year-old joined Italian coach Marcello Lippi at Chinese Super League champions Evergrande last July but spent the second half of last season on loan at Fiorentina.

"The Rosanero club is pleased to welcome one of the most decorated players in Italian football, a world champion with the national team in 2006, and with Milan in 2007," a Palermo statement read.

Gilardino scored four Serie A goals in 14 appearances during his loan spell at Fiorentina.
