Southampton looking to seal Virgil van Dijk deal quickly and will lodge an £8m bid - Southampton keen to sign Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk this summer
- The Dutchman likely to leave after his side were knocked out of the Champions League
- Ronald Koeman is set to lodge an £8million bid for the 24-year-old
Southampton are expected to offer £8million for Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk to push through a deal over the next 48 hours. The move is looking increasingly likely after the Scottish champions were knocked out of the Champions League by Swedish side Malmo on Tuesday.
Ronald Koeman is still looking to strengthen his backline after Toby Alderweireld opted against a permanent move to St Mary's and joined Tottenham over the summer.
Van Dijk has been target for a number of Premier League clubs including Arsenal but the Saints appear to be leading the chase for his signature.
The Dutchman added fuel to the fire by claiming Tuesday's defeat in Sweden could be his final appearance for Ronny Deila's side.
He said: 'There is interest but right now just after the game, it's so difficult to talk about it.
'If this is my last game then it's the last way I'd want to leave Celtic.'
