Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew in running for August award

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew is one of four nominations for the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August.

Manuel Pellegrini, Claudio Ranieri and Garry Monk are the other candidates as the country awaits the league's return this weekend after the international break

Palace won three of their opening four matches, including a memorable 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge, scoring at least two goals in all of their games.

Pellegrini has guided Manchester City to a 100% start to the season. They scored ten goals including three against Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion and have yet to concede in any of their opening four games.

Ranieri's Leicester have also enjoyed an unbeaten month with two wins and two draws; they scored four against Sunderland and also beat West Ham 2-1 at Upton Park.

Swansea have also won twice and drawn twice in August. They drew 2-2 at Chelsea on the opening day, and also came form behind to beat Manchester United 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium.

The winner will be announced on the morning of Friday, 10 September.

Swansea pair in contention for Premier League players' award

Swansea forwards Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre Ayew are both in the running for Premier League Player of the Month award for August.

Manchester City duo Aleksander Kolarov and striker David Silva are also among the nominees with Manchester United's Chris Smalling and Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez completing the list.



Gomis scored in every game in the month as Swansea went unbeaten in their first four matches while Ayew - who signed on a free transfer from Marseille - has settled quickly in the Premier League with three goals and one assist during the Swans impressive start.

Kolarov has been part of a defence that did not concede a goal in August and he also scored against Everton while United defender Smalling has enjoyed a solid start to the season. He helped United keep three clean sheets during the month in their run of two wins a draw and a defeat.

Mahrez has impressed for Leicester with four goals in four games as they made an unbeaten start while quicksilver Silva is the final contender.

The Manchester City playmaker was central to his team's unbeaten start with one goal and four assists.
