Fallen Swansea star Michu considering RETIREMENT as talks over his future drag on
Swansea hero turned zero Michu is pondering retirement as the summer saga over his future extends into the autumn.Talks between the Swans' hierarchy and representatives of the 29-year-old have continued after the transfer deadline passed, with Michu still tied to the Liberty Stadium club.
Spaniard Michu, who saw little action last season during a year's loan to Napoli of Serie A, is due back in Wales in the coming weeks having so far opted not to attend discussions about the next step of his career.Swansea had been unwilling to meet the forward's request to pay up the £1.5million remaining on the final year of his contract, while clubs weighing up a move for him have been put off by the prospect of picking up his £40,000-a-week salary.
It is thought a mutual termination is now the most likely outcome, with Michu pocketing a few smaller pay-off than he had initially sought — and it could prove to be his last act as a footballer.
Spanish sides Rayo Vallecano and Granada and Scottish champions Celtic had all expressed an interest in the Spanish international.
But it is understood Michu's representatives informed the Glasgow giants that he was weighing up his future in the game after undergoing yet another operation on the ankle problem that has ruined his last two seasons.
However, Swansea boss Garry Monk remains hopeful there can be a positive resolution for a player who was once the darling of the Liberty Stadium faithful, scoring 22 goals in the 2012-13 season as the Welshmen won the Capital One Cup.
"It is still ongoing as far as I know, but he is not with us in Swansea," said Monk. "He is training in his homeland and we are trying to come to an agreement with another club to take him, or find a good way to get it sorted for all parties.
"It has taken longer than we would have liked.
"I have not heard he is thinking of retiring but I have left dealing with that situation to the chairman."
