Everton 2-1 Manchester City: Romelu Lukaku secures first-leg victory

Romelu Lukaku scored his 19th goal of the season as Everton beat Manchester City 2-1 in their Capital One Cup semi-final first leg.

The striker headed home Everton's second goal in the 78th minute, but pulled up afterwards holding his ankle and had to be substituted.

Jesus Navas had restored parity for City a couple of minutes earlier, after Ramiro Funes Mori had put the Toffees ahead on the stroke of half-time.

Roberto Martinez's side will take a narrow advantage to the return leg at the Etihad on January 27, although they wait to see the extent of Lukaku's injury and also whether Seamus Coleman faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury late in the game.

Lukaku has scored 12 goals in as many matches and could be key to Everton's hopes of ending their 20-year wait for a trophy.

Both sides made three changes from their previous outings, including replacing their first-choice keepers, with Everton bringing in Joel Robles for Tim Howard and City replacing Joe Hart with Willy Caballero.

City made the brighter start, controlling possession in the opening 10 minutes without creating any clear openings.

In fact, chances were few and far between at either end, with Nicolas Otamendi going closest for City when he headed wide from a corner.

Everton did twice have the ball in the net through John Stones and Lukaku, but both times the flag went up for offside.

Robles was called into action late in the half to save from Sergio Aguero, who saw his follow-up shot blocked by Funes Mori.

The Everton defender was then involved in the most significant moment of the half in injury-time as he fired home from close range after Caballero saved from Ross Barkley, although City protested that Lukaku was offside during the move and possibly obstructing the keeper's view.

The goal galvanised the hosts and they played with more purpose and pace after the break.

They could have been pegged back, though, as Aguero wasted a chance from six yards out by slicing over the bar and then Fernandinho headed into the ground from close range.



Barkley had a shot saved at the other end before Robles pulled off a fine stop to keep out Kevin De Bruyne's first-time shot.

City felt they should have had a penalty when Navas went down in the box, but they did get the equaliser in the 76th minute as they broke quickly from an Everton corner, Aguero controlled a long ball and fed in Navas, who finished well past Robles.



But the celebrations were shortlived as Everton restored their lead minutes later, Lukaku heading in from Gareth Barry's cross.

The striker looked to have taken a knock before scoring and was given a rousing reception as he was taken off soon afterwards.

Everton suffered another injury blow in the final few minutes as Coleman was forced off, having used all three substitutes. But they managed to see out the game and ensure they take a lead to the Etihad.

曼城雖然陣容上有些變動，但阿古路、大衛施華及耶耶托尼3大主力均正選，破球會轉會費紀錄的奇雲迪布尼亦在陣，門將則是韋利卡巴尼路；愛華頓除門將不用侯活，由3年前曾助韋根在英足盃決賽擊敗他們的祖爾盧保斯把關，基本上其他位置全是主力，包括中鋒盧卡古（Romelu Lukaku）、巴克里及迪路菲奧。

雙方開賽後都搶攻，愛華頓絕不遜色於曼城，主場出擊甚至優勢較明顯，在中段開始越來越具侵略性，更分別在37分鐘及41分鐘，有史東斯和盧卡古「食詐糊」，但已替曼城大門敲響警號。

藍月亮43分鐘有阿古路的射門被盧保斯擋出後，半場補時階段被拖肥糖攻陷；一次角球攻勢，曼城未能清走皮球，被巴克里在禁區外得到勁射機會，卡巴尼路甩手，中堅拉美路富尼斯摩利補中。曼城球員投訴對方越位，但未得要領。

領先1球後，愛華頓下半場未有退縮，似想在曼城身上取得保險球，反令後防暴露空間給藍月亮打反擊。曼城雖有阿古路在62分鐘禁區起腳「撻Q」，錯失機會，但他在76分鐘一次突擊中，妙傳後備上陣的捷西斯拿華斯，在左路單刀射破盧保斯的十指關，惟追平僅兩分鐘，愛華頓再粉碎曼城希望，巴利長傳吊入禁區，盧卡古門前頭槌頂入，取得各項賽事近12仗的第12個入球。

最終，曼城要接受以1:2落敗的事實，惟這個比數對他們而言未算太壞，1月尾回主場踢次回合，激戰難免。

Romelu Lukaku injury 'not serious' but Seamus Coleman out

Roberto Martinez says an ankle injury suffered by Romelu Lukaku on Wednesday night is "not too serious", but Seamus Coleman faces a spell out.

Lukaku was injured during Everton's 2-1 win over Manchester City in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final, while Coleman and Tom Cleverley came off with calf problems.

Striker Lukaku was replaced shortly after heading the winning goal - his 12th in 12 games - and will be assessed ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie against Dagenham and Redbridge.

But Martinez did not appear too concerned about his top scorer's condition at the post-match press conference as he ruled out right-back Coleman for "between three and four weeks".

"Romelu took a knock to his ankle and he will need assessing. I don't know if he will be available at the weekend but I don't expect anything too serious.

"With Tom and Seamus, Tom picked up a knock to his calf against Spurs and it flared up at half-time.

"Seamus is probably the most serious of the three. He has pulled his calf and that type of injury usually takes three or four weeks to fully recover."

Four weeks on the sidelines would see Coleman miss two games against City - the return leg and a Premier League meeting - on top of matches against Chelsea, Swansea and Newcastle.

首回合落後1:2的曼城，今仗一如之前在盃賽的做法，以韋利卡巴尼路把關，其餘位置則精銳盡出，阿古路任單箭頭，由史達寧和大衛施華支援。愛華頓在門將位置也起用後備的祖爾盧保斯，中堅則有菲臘積基爾卡復出，前線由盧卡古掛帥。

18分鐘，一直捱打的愛華頓令人意外的先開紀錄領先1:0；當時中場巴克里（Ross Barkley）長騎直進，乘曼城禁區頂出現空位，無人看管下遠射破網。在中場耶耶托尼近門抽射無果後，曼城於24分鐘由另一中場費蘭甸奴遠射省中對方守將入網，扳平1:1。上半場在阿古路勁射中柱後，以和局完成。

Manchester City will play Liverpool in the Capital One Cup final after Sergio Aguero struck late to beat Everton 3-1 (4-3 on aggregate).

Holding a 2-1 advantage from the first-leg, Everton took an early lead through Ross Barkley but goals from Fernandinho, substitute Kevin de Bruyne and Aguero ensured City's progression, who will meet Liverpool in a major final for the first time on February 28.

Everton will feel aggrieved at the decision to award the crucial De Bruyne equaliser as the ball appeared to be a yard over the dead-ball line as Raheem Sterling's cut-back allowed the Belgium international to score.

It was a bitter-sweet night for City, though, as De Bruyne was carried off on a stretcher late on with a serious looking knee injury.

Everton's plan from the outset was to sit back, soak up pressure and then hit on the counter.

City had plenty of the ball in the opening 20 minutes but it was Everton that made the all-important breakthrough to take a 3-1 lead in the tie.




Nicolas Otamendi was brushed off the ball too easily by Barkley in midfield and he set sail for the City penalty area. The England international was given far too much space and he took his chance, firing a low drive into the bottom corner.

Everton have dropped eleven points from winning positions this season in the Premier League and their inability to hold a lead was on full show once again as City hit-back six minutes later.

Aguero found space on the right and unleashed an effort that was blocked into the path of Fernandinho, who struck a first-time effort from 18 yards. Joel Robles looked to have it covered but the ball took a wicked deflection off Leighton Baines and over the helpless goalkeeper.

Aguero was closely watched all night by the Everton back-four, but he found space to smack an effort against the post on 36 minutes. David Silva somehow failed to turn the ball home from close range.



Gerard Deulofeu wasted a golden opportunity just after half-time when he was released on goal by Barkley, but Willy Caballero was out quick to make the save.

That was the last clear opportunity Everton created in the game as City took control. Aguero missed his kick from 10 yards when well placed on 50 minutes and Silva headed against the post four minutes later.

Frustration was growing within the home ranks but their moment would come on 69 minutes - a moment which, arguably, was the defining moment of the entire tie.



Sterling raced clear down the left before running the ball slightly over the dead-ball line. He pulled the ball back for De Bruyne, who had replaced Yaya Toure five minutes earlier, and he smashed the ball home. Replays showed the ball was out of play when Sterling crossed but Everton's protests were in vein.

That goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of Roberto Martinez's men and Aguero put City ahead for the first time in the tie six minutes later.

De Bruyne provided the magic from the wide area, curling a beautiful ball into the middle where Aguero was waiting to flick a header into the bottom - his seventh goal of 2016.

Everton had nothing in reply as City saw the game out with little problems, although the gloss was taking off their victory as De Bruyne was stretched off with his knee in a brace after landing awkwardly.
