West Ham forward Andy Carroll has been ruled out for a month because of a hamstring injury, the club have confirmed. On Thursday, Carroll underwent a scan on the injury sustained in the 3-1 Premier League victory over Bournemouth earlier this week. Carroll limped off after just 12 minutes at the Vitality Stadium and initial fears were that he could miss up to six weeks of the season. However, West Ham have now confirmed he will be on the sidelines for just four weeks,
ruling him out of the upcoming Premier League matches with Newcastle United, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Southampton. He will also miss the FA Cup fourth round tie with either Exeter City or Liverpool on January 30. Carroll has been plagued by injuries since joining West Ham from Liverpool in 2012 and spent seven months out last year because of a knee ligaments injury.
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic, who had hoped to have Carroll back at his disposal within three-and-a-half weeks, is likely to deploy Nikica Jelavic in attack against Newcastle at St James' Park on Saturday in the absence of the towering forward.
