Arsenal news: Aaron Ramsey faces six weeks out By Jeremy Wilson, deputy football correspondent

Arsenal will discover the full severity of Aaron Ramsey’s thigh injury on Thursday amid fears that he could miss most of the Premier League title run-in. The results of a scan are due imminently but there is concern that Ramsey’s suspected thigh tear is potentially long-term and could result in missing around six weeks. He is already almost certain to miss the rest of this month, including two matches for Wales and Arsenal’s FA cup quarter-final with Watford and Champions League tie in Barcelona.
Assessments are also ongoing for centre-backs Per Mertesacker and Gabriel following respective head and hamstring injuries in the 4-0 win over Hull City, with both players a doubt for Sunday’s fixture against Watford. Arsene Wenger described Mertesacker’s injury as a “little concussion” and, while that might not have been a precise medical diagnosis, the German centre-back will now have to be monitored carefully. Football Association guidelines suggest a minimum staged recover of six days following a concussion.
Laurent Koscielny is, however, likely to be available on Sunday, while Nacho Monreal or Calum Chambers could both potentially also cover at centre-back even if Gabriel is still absent. The situation regarding Ramsey is the main concern, especially as Wenger is already without five other centre midfield options in Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Tomas Rosicky. It all now leaves him extremely reliant on Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny during what has been the most congested period of the season.
Ramsey’s absence will again prompt questions both of Wenger’s decision not to buy a central midfielder last summer and also his management of the workload of players.
Even before Tuesday’s match against Hull, he had admitted to recent concern about Ramsey but, with Arsenal leading 1-0, still brought him on in the 57th minute following Gabriel’s injury. Ramsey suffered his injury 16 minutes later. Wenger has lost Alexis Sanchez and Petr Cech for significant periods already this season despite playing them when he was conscious of small injuries. Players, though, are commonly continuing through minor injuries at this stage of the season, with Sanchez having also experienced some discomfort in his knee.
