Arsenal are understood to be interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to Sky in Germany.

The 23-year-old's father has reportedly met with Emirates manager Arsene Wenger, who is believed to be ready to pay a fee of around ?43m for his services.

Xhaka is contracted to Monchengladbach until 2019 after joining them four years ago.

Although Wenger is under pressure and a number of fans have called for him to leave after two decades in charge, he is already planning for next season.

With the likes of Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta both well into their thirties and struggling with injuries this season, Xhaka could be seen as a long-term replacement.

He played the full 90 minutes inSwitzerland's 1-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Friday and is expected to feature prominently for his country at Euro 2016 this summer.

Despite his age, Xhaka has already made more than 100 Bundesliga appearances for Monchengladbach and has helped them to fifth in the table.

Indiscipline has also been an issue for the Swiss cap, however, and he has been sent off three times this season, against Werder Bremen, Ingolstadt and Darmstadt.

Indeed, he has been dismissed six times in all for his club side over a 20-month period following three other red cards in the previous two campaign.

Arsenal are moving towards agreement with Borussia Mönchengladbach on a potential £30 million deal for Granit Xhaka.

With Arsenal’s top four place now confirmed and only a point needed at home to Aston Villa on Saturday to guarantee their place in the Champions League group phase next season, Arsène Wenger is  hoping to conclude the Xhaka deal as early as possible this summer.

Central midfield is his transfer priority and Xhaka, who has been extensively scouted all season, is the main target and the two clubs are currently in talks. Arsenal were initially hoping to pay closer to £25 million while Mönchengladbach wanted around £35 million and, although no agreement is yet complete, there is growing optimism at the prospect of a deal. Xhaka, who is 23, is understood to be keen on the move but must still agree personal terms on what would be a four or five year contract.

Described in 2012 by Ottmar Hitzfeld as a “young Bastian Schweinsteiger”, Xhaka plays in the same Switzerland midfield as Mohamed Elneny, who Arsenal also bought in January.

Xhaka is a more defence-minded midfielder and would be competing either for Francis Coquelin’s place or could give Wenger the option of playing two holding midfields for certain games.

He also still has Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey but Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini will also leave at their end of their contracts this summer.

Xhaka would be the most expensive midfielder in Arsenal’s history, with Wenger also still keen to add a centre-back and a striker this summer ahead of what is the final season of his current contract.

另一邊廂，多蒙特中場根度簡亦屢傳獲英超豪門曼城垂青，今夏過檔勢在必行，惟至今仍只聞樓梯響，最近更受重創，將緣盡歐國盃。多蒙特CEO華斯基接受當地報章訪問時透露，已向根度簡開出最後通牒：「球會已跟他討論了一段時間，目前他有兩個選項；一是離隊，一是續約——但簽的必須是長約。」
