Italy midfielder Claudio Marchisio will miss this summer's Euro 2016 after suffering a serious knee injury. Marchisio was stretched off 15 minutes into Juventus' 4-0 win over Palermo on Sunday after suffering a suspected ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury. The 30-year-old, who is a key play for Antonio Conte's Italy squad, was left in obvious pain on the ground and immediately signaled that the injury was serious. Juventus later confirmed Marchisio had torn his ACL in his left knee and would undergo surgery in the next few days. "Just got back home," Marchisio said in a post on his Instagram account on Sunday evening. "The news from the scan obviously hurts me, but these are the risks of our job. I have strength and so much desire to get back well and as soon as possible.
"Meanwhile, inside of me there is great joy for this win... We're ever closer to the great aim. Well done lads. Until the end, we NEVER give up."
Marchisio will not play again this season and will miss next month's Copa Italia clash with AC Milan and this summer's football showpiece in France.
Juventus's victory took their Serie A lead over Napoli to nine points with five games remaining.
The Turin giants are aiming for a fifth consecutive league title, a feat they last achieved in 1935.
